No, no... don't go off on a tangent... we had this discussion here a
couple of weeks ago when I couldn't figure out why I had no bootsplash config option (check the archives for the thread entitled: "Where has my bootsplash gone?" started on July the 4th of this year). There are a couple of settings you have to enable in the kernel, or the bootsplash config option will not be enabled for you to enable. You have to enable ramdisks in Block devices to be able to enable initrd support. Once that, as well as framebuffer support, is enabled the bootsplash option will become active, and you can enable it. You must not have the boot logo also enabled, and of course you have to install bootsplash, put it in the default runlevel with rc-update, and symlink an initrd to /boot for it to use, as well as edit /boot/grub/grub.conf or /etc/lilo.conf to use the framebuffer and/or silent bootsplash graphics. You can read all about it on the forums--or, hey, it's been moved to the Wiki: http://www.gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Framebuffer:Bootsplash:Grubsplash Hope this helps.
