Turning off framebuffers, or trying to. <SNIP> Sorry - personal refernce between Brett and I maybe 4-5 months ago, but to answer your question ATI lisenced one of the standard sound chip databases, same one Intel puts in their chipsets, for use in ATI's chipset. Support for this was pretty recent in Linux and I had to go to a 2.6 series kernel much earlier than a person of my skillset would have preferred. It really hasn't caused me too many problems running 2.6, but things like udev & framebuffers are way beyond where I need to go. I just want my Linux boxes to be useful in my recording and composing.
