Default LiveCD old?

Hello,

I downloaded the file
http://linux.rz.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/d.../releases/x86/
2004.1/livecd/install-x86-minimal-2004.1.iso,
burned it and booted from the burned CD. To my surprise, I was welcomed to
the Gentoo Linux 2004.0 LiveCD. Why isn't the version number 2004.1?

Thanks for your help.

Wolfgang

Hello again,

since not having recieved any answers yet, I tried the installation with the
2004.0 LiveCD. Surprise again: my network card (NE2000 compatible PCI)
wasn't autodetected. I entered
modprobe ne2k-pci
and got lots of error messages about undefined(?) symbols.

To me, this seems like something is wrong with the CD, though I'm not sure.
I'm getting annoyed.

Wolfgang

In article <2geovrF200jlU1@uni-berlin.de>, jeltsch@tu-
cottbus.de says...

Did you check the MD5 values of the ISO that you
downloaded? Perhaps you got a bum download...

Alternatively, you could try the older 2004.0 LiveCD -
which is what I used to build a machine a few weeks ago.
Once you get it up and sync'd with the main portage tree
(as opposed to the static snapshot that's on the CD),
you'll have the latest software anyway. (right?)

Hi,

AFAIK this is right, personally I use the old 1.4 rc1. Roch stable for me,
detects even nforce-onboard-nics. If you get your stage-tarball from the
net, your up-to-date.

Could this be a remnant of bug #49287?

http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49287

It sure seems that way. It's a harmless bug, but a bit confusing.

Hi Wolfgang,

Use the Knoppix CD instead and don't blame Gentoo too much for some possible
bugs on the live CD. No special Gentoo CD ist needed for installing Gentoo
Linux. Or use an older CD as some people adviced you. You only need a
running Linux which has an internet connection and is capable of a chroot.
