Default Upgrade From RedHat Using Network

I've got a Sony VAIO Z505 running RedHat 8.0. I'd like to
upgrade that system to a living Linux distro. Problem is that I
no longer have the CD-ROM drive for that notebook.

In the past, I've upgraded RedHat using up2date over the
network. I've followed a procedure where I change the
redhat-release RPM and up2date then updates a slew of RPMs.

Is there a procedure to follow to migrate this system to Gentoo
using an updater like yum or apt-get?

Thanks in advance.
