Hello
I'm using Gentoo with 2.6.7 kernel and have problems with ripping audio CDs. The ripping speed is only about 2x and it takes about 30 minutes to rip an audio CD. My drive is Toshiba SD-R2512 and it's reading speed is 24x. There are no problems with ripping data CDs. DMA is enabled. I tried many programs, K3B, kaudiocreator etc. and they all rip very slowly. Any ideas? Best regards, Rafal -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list |

Scratched CD's, flaky CD-ROM? I think the programs you mention are just front-ends to cdparanoia, so it won't make any difference which one you use. You can try cdrdao. -- Hilsen Harald. -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list |

Hi,
yes, the toshiba is just slow. I had once a toshiba 24x cdrom too and it was extremly slow with ripping. So slow, that I finally used an old 12x scsi-cdrom for ripping. I would try a different cdrom drive. Toshibas are not the fastest rippers, exspecially the older ones. Glück Auf Volker -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list |

Yes, in Windows it rips one audio CD in less than 4 minutes so the drive is OK. Best regards, Rafal -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list |

I haven't really tried cdparanoia. I tried Kaudiocreator and k3b. They both
read a CD-Audio with about 2x speed. In Windows I just run Nero and then copied the CD to a hdd which took 3 minutes. K3b has few error correction options to choose, I tried all of them and it didn't change anything. When k3b starts to read a CD, it initializes for almost 3 minutes! This is something really weird. I found in Google that some people had the same problem, but noone could help them ![]() Best regards, Rafal -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list |

Why dont you give it a try to see how fast it goes? All you have to do
is put the cd in the drive and: cdparanoia -B Baal -- The conquering penguin of the tribe of UNIX... -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list |
