Hi list!
I've been using gentoo for maybe 6 months now, and it just keeps getting better and better. So far I haven't found anything I want to do that isn't possible ![]() Until I decided to try modifying my GENTOO_MIRRORS list in /etc/make.conf to download from uri's such as rsync or rsync over ssh. Hmm, didn't work (cause wget didn't do that sort of thing). passwords embedded in the uri. Everything else it passes on to wget. Now I'm getting sources from machines that don't have ftp / http servers but on which I have an account and can ssh in. It could easily be extended to do other retrieval as well (whatever other types there are, none come to mind right now). Its a bit insecure at the moment (passwords have to go in /etc/make.conf, and therefore they get displayed when you emerge, but I'll fix that ![]() Now the question: does anyone care? has it been done already? do you want it? cya, -- Iain Buchanan <iain@pcorp.com.au> -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list |

If you want to try out my script visit this (very new) webpage:
http://iaindb.customer.netspace.net.au/ I'd like to hear what ideas you might have on it. If I'm not swamped with suggestions (given that I've only had 2 replies I don't think I will be...) you might even see them soon! cya, -- Iain Buchanan <iaindb@netspace.net.au> -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list |
