Default Acer al1706 LCD monitor doesn't_work

Hey folks,

I just got a fancy LCD monitor, an Acer AL1706. When I plug it in, the
screen says "input not supported". When I boot with the new monitor, I get
the Lilo splash screen. I figure this is because Lilo boots in plain VGA
mode. But then it goes to "input not supported" when KDE starts up.

I had thought that Hardrake would have detected the new monitor at boot. No
such luck.

I'm using an ATI Radeon video card. Can anyone tell me how to configure
this?

TIA!

Nevermind. I just started randomly trying other monitor settings and found
one that worked. Gods, this video quality is HIDEOUS. Good thing I'm not a
gamer or I'd be physically ill. But wow, what a large desk I have! It's
like I got a new monitor and a new desk as a bonus.

It is. I'm using the AL1921 setting running at 1280x1024.

I see the generic "flat panel" settings, but I'm not sure if those are for
LCD or CRT.

flat panel is the same thing as LCD.

If you are running at the right resolution, your video quality
should be good.

Can you better define hideous?

You might consider using xorgcfg or xorgconfig and looking at
modeline settings. I seem to remember some extensive chatter on
setting modelines some months back, but it may take a bit of
effort a Google Groups searching this forum or
alt.os.linux.mandrake to find it.

Good luck!
