I've got autofs working to some degree, but how do i get it so that urpmi
will prompt me for a CD? If i have no CD in the drive or
if i have the wrong CD (This was with CD-5 in the drive) either way it says:
# urpmi grep-doc
Installation failed, some files are missing:
/mnt/cdrom/media/main6/grep-doc-2.5.1a-1mdk.i586.rpm
You may want to update your urpmi database

I did update the database it went ok but didnt help
Thanks

Hmm, looking around I find
main-2006.0.idx:grep-doc-2.5.1a-1mdk.i586.rpm 38 KB 09/12/2005 03:25:00 PM
pkg-2006.0.idx:2006-Disc6 grep-doc-2.5.1a-1mdk.i586

I'll suggest going to http://urpmi-addmedia.org and setting a mirror
for main, contrib and updates.
Then in Mandriva Linux Control Center --->Software Management-->
Select from where software packages are downloaded when updating the
system
and just enable your main, contrib, updates and check the Updates box
besides updates.

Now it will pull everything required from the mirrors.

i am not explaining it well.
With NO CD inserted it should prompt me for the correct media - it never
does prompt at all. Same is true if i put in the wrong CD.
Also, using the Mandriva control center to install stuff and it doesnt
prompt for a Cd either it just stalls and waits forever as if it was dead
(but i can kill it). For some reason with autofs it cant tell whats going
on and urpmi gets totaly confused.

Look at /etc/urpmi/urpmi.cfg

Does it have entries for your removeable media? If not you can recreate
them using System -> Configuration -> Packaging -> Software Media
Manager ... Choose "Add Custom"

There is a radio button for removeable media, and you will have to look
at each CD to get the data needed, but you *can* recreate the entries
for urpmi to use if they have been deleted, for example by
"urpmi.removemdia -a" which people sometimes do when they configure
their sources at easyurpmi.zarb.org

All this assumes that you don't just want to use the network. Is there
a specific reason that you cannot just follow the easyurpmi sites
instructions and use the network for installs?

I'm betting this is an old issue that has been addressed before. su to root
cd to /var/cache/urpmi/rpms and do an ls. Is there a bunch of rpms there?
remove the files there and try again.

Yes, that would work and is probably the best way. I wanted to imply that it
had to do with a corrupt file in the cache... Probably could have worded it
different.

Fair enough. I have been poking around a bit in the scripts and I also
noticed that the /car/cache/urpmi/partial directory gets cleaned with
'urpmi --clean', so it truly is the way to go (unless of course you want
to manually clean both directories.)

Well, now that urpmi is totally hosed, how do i fix it?
I deleted all the media, and tried to add it back, well it adds it back but
CD3 is there about 4 times CD6 twice and so on, i now have a list of 12
CD's for the 7 Cd power pack and 1 update source. And it cant install a
friggin thing. Also, the add for network sources wont work
No matter what i do it just doesnt understand it needs another CD and it
gives up fails because it doesnt have it
IF i know in advance the correct CD i can put it in the drive and urpmi will
(or would have) work because as soon as it goes looking the right stuff is
there. of course now the CD sources are all screwed up so its not going to
work at all.

Unfortunately you are following up your own post, and it is not at all
clear to me if you have read anything else I wrote.

Please follow up properly so I know if you have read/tried the
suggestions given by me and others.

basically 'urpmi --clean' then 'urpmi.removemedia -a' followed by a
visit to easyurpmi.zarb.org (and following the instructions there, of
course) should have you straightened out.

Also, the following link will help us help you if you read it carefully
and pay attention to the excellent advice there:

http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

Among other things, it will explain to you that you should not
paraphrase what you did, but rather copy and paste commands and the
output. For example instead of stating "I deleted all the media" copy
and paste the command(s) you entered at the command line along with
their output.

Good Luck,

Jim D.
