cant install mandriva 2005 le

when i boot from the mandriva 10.2 le 2005 dvd it loads fine, i hit enter to
start install and it goes to the installation screen to pick the language
etc. no mouse nor keyboard work at all. text install does same thing.
WTF is wrong? i guess it dont like this pc for some reason. i don't see how
in the hell it could even get to that point if the keyword doesn't work and
stuff.

Your keyboard and your mouse are plug with USB or PS/2 ?

Unplug any non essential USB or PS2 stuff, like card readers, scanners, etc.
Of course leave your mouse and kbd installed. I found installing Mandriva
that a USB card reader caused install issues, but after install it caused
no problems

The keyboard is ps2 actually and the mouse is usb.

I have an external maxtor one touch 2 200gb usb 2.0 hard drive, so would
that be the problem? it is the only thing i could unplug from usb since that
and my mouse is the only thing plus my HP color laser printer. Oh, and an
APC UPS too. The BackUps XS 1000.

Oh hey, one last thing. if i get it running, i will install it on my 160gb
backup drive, in part, maybe use 50gb or so. then it would be dual booting
into windows and mandriva. so if i wanted to get rid of the mandriva and
only have the windows, would i fdisk /mbr to get rid of the bootloader and
be only windows no sign of mandriva? opr what would be the best way to get
rid of the bootloader and just be windows only and then reformat the 160gb
back to full ntfs?

If you picked lilo as boot manager the
lilo -u will uninstall lilo and replace with the original mbr contents.

You use linux fdisk to delete the linux partitions and use XP
disktools for formatting.

I would un-plug both for a try, once 2005 is installed plug back-in one
at a time and they should get seen and installed.
