On Friday 24 February 2006 14:15, cvh@cpi-service.com stood up and spoke
the following words to the masses in /alt.os.linux.mandriva...:/ Well, let's see what we can do... ;-) That would be a sign of something crashing and the window not getting cleaned up. At least, if I read you correctly... It's a crash... By that, I take it you mean that you reinstalled from the CD's or DVD you've burned? It may be so, but it already starts sounding like there's something wrong with your installation media, and I have a feeling that I know what... - see below... My guess is that your download of the /.iso/ files was corrupt. This happens sometimes. The only way to be sure that your download was okay is to check either the signatures or the /md5sums./ On the /ftp/ download mirror, you will see a file called /md5sums.txt/ or something similar, e.g. the name of the /.iso/ file but with an additional /.md5/ at the end. You should download that file as well and then check the /md5sums/ of the downloaded ./iso/ images against what's in the file. There are /md5sum/ checkers for Windows and DOS, freely available for download. The second thing advice is to burn your images to quality media, and at a low speed, e.g. 2x. This will guarantee that the burn is good and that your CD's or DVD will still be usable - say - two years from now. Either way, make sure the speed is set low enough for the media and for the burner. I wouldn't go above 4x. What's a few minutes extra if it saves you from making a bad burn (or a nice coaster), right? ;-) Hope this was helpful... ;-) -- With kind regards, *Aragorn* (Registered GNU/Linux user #223157) |
