Default Data base locked.

Hi mandriva folk.

After I have used the software manager, then exited the media
using it, it seems to remain locked.
If I try to use it again I get this error message.

Error message is:
A fatal error occurred: urpmi data base is locked (another
program in already using it.)

I cannot determine a program that is still using it

I have to reboot my computer to reset the data base.

Any tips on how to overcome this problem?

Keep smiling.
Don.

Could be the mdkapplet program.
It tries to run just after login based on the values found in
/etc/sysconfig/mdkapplet then at the UPDATE_FREQUENCY time.

As Bit Twister responded, it's most likely mdkapplet running urpmi.update.
You can check by using "su -l" to get root privleges, and then running
"lsof | grep urpmi", to see which process has urpmi files in use.

=====================================
When urpmi database is reported as locked ,I do the following : Go to CLI
su ---> passw

# rm -f "/var/lib/urpmi/.LOCK"
# rm -f "/var/lib/urpmi/.RPMLOCK"

That always works (for me)

Hi David and Highland Ham and Bit twister.
Thanks, It seems that what David is saying is true, Strange
behaviour. Thinking back it occurred after each time I started
a urpmi update in software manager or engaging some other
software manager task.
Thanks for the info.
Keep smiling.

Removing the lock while mdkapplet is running urpmi.update, and then
running anything that updates the database, is likely to cause the
database to be corrupt.

Removing the lock should only be needed, if an application that locked
the database crashed, without unlocking the db.
