Default easyurpmi repositories

Hi Mandriva folk.

I have Pentium 4 3ghtz 1meg ram
I have just done a new full install of mandriva 2008.1

Using Firefox, I went to Easy Urpmi with the new profile for
2008.1.

I clicked on Add Official Medias.

Response: download box. I chose Open with Add urpmi media.

Typed root pass word.

Pop up box: you are about to add new packages media. I
responded Yes.

New pop up box:
Saying: There was a problem adding media:
Could not find a mirror from mirror list $MIRRORLIST.

I have tried using the old profile version
and pasting the command line.
I get such messages as:
Problem reading synthesis file of medium main or contrib if
that is what I asked for.

Does anyone here know why I am haveing such a bother
downloading the trpositories?

Thanks Don.

WOW!,
I am having exactly the same problem at the moment.I did exactly all the
passages you described. The only answer I have for myself is that my
wireless connection has become very weak ( too much vegetation has grown
in between the antenna and my box...) lots of DUP!...how are you
connecting?

Hi Santo,

Interesting that I am not alone here,

My connection is Ethernet eth0 through a Netgear broadband
router device. Not wireless.

Keep smiling.
Don.

You might try http://www.mandrivauser.de/smarturpmi/

I will have to guess first mirror in $MIRRORLIST not working in .au

Without knowing the mirror, hard to say.

Why not use the tools supplied by Mandriva?

Configure Your Computer/Software Management/Configure media sources for
install and update

choose distribution sources, pick your closest/favourite mirror and away you
should go. This method has worked flawlessly for quite a few versions now.

After mirror selection, I would recommend deleting testing and backports.

There was a bug where it would use any mirror in your repository list
regardless if it was enabled or not.

The next thing I would try is using the MCC to remove all the media
sources (except for CDs or DVD), then (at Easy Urpmi)
Switch to manual mirror selection
ensure Version and Architecture are correct, click
Continue
then use the dropdown list to select a mirror. If that mirror
doesn't work, then I would use the MCC to remove the media sources
again, then try a few more.

Before actually updating, I would use the MCC to remove all media
sources for backports and testing.

To simplify things, I would concentrate on Official first. Once that
is working, I would try the auto-detect for PLF, then repeat the
above process if necessary.

I haven't tried that thing for long enough that I forgot about it.
It's good to read that it works now.

Thanks for all the help regarding repositories.

I re-installed 2008.1
I then found a mirror that worked by choosing 'Switch to
manual selection.' Which is not recommended.
Anyway it worked for 'Add official medias.'
No such luck with PLF. I will keep trying.

Pity it has become so buggy as I have been using the
repositories since mandriva 2006.0 with never a hitch.

Thanks again for your help.

Keep smiling,
Don.
