Default Help with Firefox 2.0 install

I don't know what I am doing wrong.

I downloaded firefox-2.0.tar.gz from Mozilla's website to my home
folder...

Extracted it...

went into the extracted firefox folder and as root did the following...

# ./firefox*

../firefox-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

#./run-mozilla.sh*

# ./firefox-bin

open shared object file: No such file or directory

[root@localhost firefox]#

My Mozilla stuff is in /usr/lib/mozilla , /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox-*.*.*.
and, /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox-*.*.*. respctfully.

I tried to copy to the extracted firefox file to /usr/lib folder and that
doesn't work either.

Just for the record, I must have 15 copies scattered around my file system
due to the number of links that i tried, none of which worked on my
computer. The install directions at the Mozilla site don't really say much
about how to install, either does the readme file that came with the
packages.

Any help will be totally, and without measure, received with grace and
humility. Thanx

I would click up a terminal and do a

cat /etc/release

then popup your browser and goto
http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/
set your release and cpu architecture
Click proceed to step 2

Pick your main, contrib, main_update, contrib_update and plf mirrors.
Click proceed to step 3

Now in the terminal, do a
su - root
and paste commands from step 3

urpmi libstdc++.so.5

I had to deal with the same issue after clean install of 2007;
apparently Mandriva moved on to libstdc++6, so you'll have to install
libstdc++5(which yours and mine Firefox is linked to) via urpmi.

I don't know what compelled you to run it as root - there's no need to
do that. Just install that missing lib and run as regular user.
