Default HP 5300C Scanner MDR 2006

HP 5300C scanner not working in Mdr 2006, all updates installed. Scanner is
detected by both Kooka and Xsane, lsusb, sane-find-scanner, and scanimage
-L all return correct info. In Xsane scanning starts but then doesn't
continue. get a buzzing sound like a stalled motor. Eventually get a time
out error, something like "error during device I/O". Also tried going
into /etc/sane.d and tried uncommenting options, one at a time, in both
hp.conf and avision.conf with no results (also tried adding option
dumb-read but no luck).

Rebooted into Kubuntu 6.06 and scanner started working okay! Borrowed
libsane-avision.so.1.0.17 from Kubuntu and renamed and replaced
libsane-avision.so.1.0.16 in /usr/lib/sane. Renamed the Kubuntu driver to
libsane.avision.so.1.0.16 so link would be correct. Scanner is now working
in 2006.

Libsane-avision.so.1.0.16 is apparently broken in 2006, upgrading to -.17
fixed the problem. Can anyone else verify? Believe Cooker has -.17
drivers in libsane1 package if you want a Mdr developed driver.
