Default Mandriva 2008 Spring and Pan Newsreader

Pan newsreader had been working well for me since version 2006, but in
2008 it reverted back to not rendering large binaries properly. There was
a thread about this back when Mandriva 2008 was released. As far as I
know Pan's problem was never resolved in the 2008 release and in my case
that annoyance continues. Does anyone know if Pan renders binaries
properly in this latest Mandriva release?

I just checked two groups with Pan and did not find the problem.
Biggest jpg was 24396 lines. Running 2008.1 mandriva release with
pan-0.132-3mdv2008.1.i586.rpm 1098893 Apr 03 20:03

I did notice pan does not show animated gif files which moved under knode.

Well, that is encouraging. I went and burned the Mandriva 2008 Spring
Live .iso file to CD and loaded it up in the machine I'm going to be using
it on. Pan rendered everything perfectly as it did prior to Mandriva
2008, the sound worked as it should and Compiz 3-D functioned perfectly.
This version may be worth downloading. Thanks.

I'm a little confused as to why you think the version (release) of
Mandriva has anything to do with the version/operability of the Pan
newsreader. If the version that comes with the distro doesn't work, then
install another version of Pan. How well Pan works has nothing to do with
what release of Mandriva you happen to be running.

This was all hashed out in some detail last October. Uninstalling Pan and
installing a previous version didn't work. Trust me, myself and others
tried with no success. The link to some of the thread can be found here:

Although it was suggested it had more to do with Gnome than Mandriva 2008
the problem was the same in KDE.

I read through that thread, and in fact made a post in it... It has to do
with the GTK libraries/versions. As was suggested (by me and others) in
that thread, the problem seems to be directly related to running the
(crappy) beta versions of Pan that are currently shipping with all
distros. If you were to go back to the last good (stable) version of Pan,
which was 0.14.2.91, you likely would not have the problem. It has the
added bonus of having many more features than the broken beta versions, as
well.

Hmmm. Dan, as I mentioned I tried that. Didn't work. Tried a couple of
versions, didn't work. It does, however, work using the Mandriva 2008
Spring Live CD I burned. So something changed, either in Gnome, which is
my preferred desktop, or with the Mandriva OS itself. I appreciate the
input though.

So something changed, either in Gnome,

I should have added that perhaps Pan got it's act together and fixed it.
