Just to let other newbies know that ,although I already had installed the
distro from the Linux Format DVD on my main machine , I now have it also
installed on a Pentium III laptop ,having purchased the Linux Format Special
Mandriva publication which comes with 4 CDs . Although I still have to find
out how to mount a ZIP 250 (parallel) Drive and also a D-link
AirPlusG+ -DWL-G650+ Wireless Lan transceiver (probably by using
ndiswrapper) , I am enjoying Linux .
Above all ,by having 2 machines available ,I can now effectively do the
on-line Linux course at http://www.linux.org/courses with the aim to coming to
grips with the CLI.
It takes time ....but I am getting there !

Congrats Frank! My advice, having used Linux for several years now, is to
tackle one issue (e. wifi ndiswrapper, or zipdrive) at a time, perhaps one
problem to solve each week, and ask for help on alt.os.linux.mandriva and
alt.os.linux.mandrake, and be as specific as possible in providing
information.

The Dlink card is either a atheros chipset or a prism chipset. You
should be able to set it up using those drivers in linux. I have'nt had
much luck with wifi under mandrake LE version. In suse it automatically
sees these cards and selects the correct driver. It also works with a
netgear wg511 card. Just take your time and be sure to read docs
throughly and you should be able to connect in no time.
