Does anyone know how to get rid of the wasteful gunk
(package group icons) 2007's MandrivaUpdate uses to fill the entire left column? In 2006, the left column had package names, and the right column had the package description, reason for update, etc. In 2007, the whole left column is occupied by a tree of icons for some semi-arbitrary classification of packages into groups. The right column is now split, giving less than half the former column space for the package names and descriptions. You can't even see the whole list of available packages one shot until the confirmation step after package selection. The layout in 2007 is _massively_ less efficient in time and space. <grumpy-mode> I don't care what grouping somebody put a package into, and I don't want to be forced to look at the infantile icon somebody's crayon-wielding preschooler created. I don't want to have to click on a whole bunch of crayonish icons to find the names of packages to select for updating. Now, _THIS_ is something I feel like filing a bug report about! </grumpy-mode> Is there any reasonable way to restore a 2006-like layout? -- Robert Riches spamtrap42@verizon.net (Yes, that is one of my email addresses.) |

Actually, I have only posted to this newsgroup and posted a
new topic in the 'Mandriva Software' forum. One of the replies in the forum indicates Mandriva knew of all the negative response to this hideous reduction in functionality but stuck with their crayonish icons anyway. I'm debating whether it would be beneficial to file a bug report. If somebody beats me to filing it, that's fine, too. Who knows, there may already be one filed by someone else, but I couldn't find it. -- Robert Riches spamtrap42@verizon.net (Yes, that is one of my email addresses.) |
