Default Sony pcg-f580 VAIO laptop and touchpad

I am just installing Mandriva2007 on a Sony VAIO model pcg-f580 and the
touchpad is not recognized by the system. Would anyone have any idea how
to activate it or any suggestions?

I am using a USB mouse instead.

Otherwise, the installation went well and everything seem to work. I am
also using a D-link ethernet pmcia adapter (not wifi) and it was easily
recognized.

Cheers

Marc

have you tried to configure it after the install? Does it show up under
the hardware list? in your box setup does it show the touchpad active? --

If it helps, I have Mandriva on this Sony Vaio (PCG-GRZ615S). In the
Mandriva Control Centre the touchpad shows under Mouse -> Universal ->
Synaptics Touchpad.

did you choose that and see if it works???, if not go to hardware in that
control center and see if you find it there, if you do, press the config
tool and see what happens after that....this may require you to unplug the
mouse but I usually find that both of them will work.. --

Thanks for all of your tips! I called the laptop's owner and he told me
that he had 'disabled' the touchpad. I then checked the bios and noticed
that it had 'ps2 mouse' connection enabled and I disabled this. The
touchpad now works! It also looks like it used an alps driver.

Anyway, everything works fine now, even a USRobotics wifi adapter that
the owner could not get to work properly. His laptop has now been
upgraded from a Win98 to Mandriva2007 box! He is ecstatic!

I did have trouble with the IRda port (infra-red) which seemed to
conflict with the wifi adapter, so I have disabled this through the
bios. Small price to pay for a working laptop.

Cheers
