I just did a "subscribe to newsgroups" > "new list" in KNode and found the
group on news.xs4all.nl.

Not here. I 'solved' it by creating a new account in knode, pointing to the
same newsserver (news6.xs4all.nl). A new groups list was made and this
newsgroup found.

Strange. Probably some knode config bit gone wrong.

I did that a few times, with no positive result.

This is what I did:
1) I created a new knode news account pointing to the same newsserver,
downloaded the complete groups list and found mandriva.
2) I found out that the different news accounts (all pointing to the same
newsserver) had different numbers of groups! The newest accounts had the
biggest number of groups ...
3) I copied the 'groups' file from that new knode account over the older
knode account. Bingo: mandriva found! I'm now posting via that account.
