I had this error showing up on one of my Western Digital IDE drives. It
never caused any data loss
on my machine, but can be a sign of impending drive failure. I replaced
the drive just to be sure.
There is an option in the linux kernel configuration that mentions this
error as a DMA channel bug, if I remember
correctly (I believe it's under DMA sharing)
and the option is supposed to fix this if it is showing up due to this
problem.
you might recompile if you know how to do so and look for this option
in the kernel config help files, and see if it stops the errors.
