Default How to set xterm display properties

I have another X related question concerning RH FC 3. On my previous
systems I had placed default values for resources for xterm and other
such X programs in my .Xdefaults file in my home directory. I copied
that file over to my new FC3 box and when I bring up an xterm it is not
using the values inside this file. So my question is, under FC3, where
can I override the system defaults for X applications. I would like to
override certain values for just myself and not system wide (which I
could do under /usr/lib/X11/app-defaults/XTerm).

IIRC, there is a GNOME setting about whether or not to honor
~/.Xdefaults but since I don't use lame window managers I might not
be remembering correctly ;-)

However, at least under the Enlightenment manager ~/.Xdefaults works
as advertised so the problem isn't from X11. Perhaps google.com can
help here.

Just in case it could be a file permissions issue.

Cheers

Someone else in
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2005-May/msg04347.html suggests
an entry in ~/.Xclients as :

xrdb ~/.Xdefaults

but that seems contrary to the historical X implementation. Maybe FC3 is
departing from the standards.
