Default Installing redhat 9 on IBM T40

Hello everyone
i have an IBM T40 thinkpad machine with Windows XP installed. I have
recently installed Redhat 9 in a virtual machine using Microsoft
Virtual PC program. the installation successfully completed, but the
installation program could not detect my monitor. in the last
installation screen it asked me to provide the horizontal and vertical
retrace values. i left the default values as they are and completed
the installation. i selected the textmode as my login mode. but the
problem is that when i try to change to the graphic mode, i receive
only a blank screen with colored dashes and lines.
have anybody encountered problem such as this? how can one know the
monitor horizontal and vertical retrace values to be provided in the
installation, from windws xp machine?
Regards
elamin

I know that with VMWare, you must specify a certain video card
configuration. The do***entation that ships with VMWare tells you which
one to choose (ditto with the network/audio cards). I imagine that the
Virutal PC program must have the same sort of specifications listed in the
manual.
