valido"), come faccio a cambiare/installare/correggere l'Unicode, mettendo
quello giusto, che comunque non so quale è?

Ho installato anche Mandrake 9.1, che invece non ha assolutamente questo
problema: evidentemente lui usa l'unicode giusto....

Grazie a chiunque mi sappia/voglia/possa rispondere.

http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/tr translates it as:

I hope that someone can help me: In my PC I have installed, between the
others I KNOW, also RedHat 9, than but it gives a problem to me limiting or
bloccante to second of the cases: if use Konqueror, I do not succeed to open
directory (or the files) that they contain accented letters, and I obtain
marks them of error "directory (the rows) seems not to exist more". If
instead I use Nautilus, it writes me to the end of the names of the
directory/files that they have accented letters "unicode not valid", but
succeeds however to open directory and the files(konqueror instead not).
Siccome I would want to use konqueror, the anomaly becomes bloccante, why I
cannot open and modernize my rows whose names have accented letters. Taking
for bond it marks them of error supplied from Nautilus ("unicode not
valid"), as I make ambiare/installare/correggere the Unicode, putting that
just one, than however I do not know which is? I have installed also
Mandrake 9,1, than instead it does not have absolutely this problem:
evidently it uses the unicode just.... Thanks to anyone sappia/voglia/possa
to answer to me. ArchiPit

I hope somebody can help me.

I have installed, between others, also RedHat 9, that have a limiting or
blocking problem, as the case mey be: if i use konqueror I cannot open those
files or folder that have accent letters (à instead of a, and so on) and i
receive the error "the folder seems to no more exists".

If on the contrary I use Nautilus, i see at the end of the row "Not valid
Unicode", but anyway Nautilus can open the file or the folder.

How can I correct the error, as I prefer to use Konqueror?

Mandrake 9.1, installed on the same computer in a different partition, is
not affected by this error.

Thankyou ynotssor for your help.
My locale command, ruturned the following informations:
$ locale -a|grep it
italian
it_CH
it_CH.iso88591
it_CH.utf8
it_IT
it_IT@euro
it_IT.iso88591
it_IT.iso885915@euro
it_IT.utf8
it_IT.utf8@euro
lithuanian
$

Is there something not congruent? And if so, how can I add/remove the right

As you probably have understood, I am new on linux....

Thanks a lot

Please don't top post. Post your reply underneath that to which you are replying.

Your posted results show what Italian locales are available on your machine.
You need to also provide the output of "locale" so that people can see
exactly *which* locale you are using.

Those results may be changed (z.b.) with "export LANG=it_IT.iso88591" in the
appropriate file, or from the the command line.

"ynotssor" <"ynotssor"> ha scritto nel messaggio

Thanks for your patience: the results of my locale command is as follows:

[root@localhost root]# locale
LANG=it_IT.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=
[root@localhost root]#

So, if I well understand, my reedhat9 is using for all the LC_xx above
listed, the unicode "it_IT.UTF-8", but I could use instead the unicode it_IT
or it_IT.iso88591 or also other.

Continuing, I could change the used unicode first locating where the actual
"it_IT.UTF-8" is and second changing it in that folder using the command
"export LANG=it_IT.iso88591".

Right?
Now I will test the situation.

Thanks...

You can test from the command line with the above command[s] until you find
the local that suits your needs. Once you do, then it can be enabled upon a
reboot by changing the LANG=****** line in /etc/sysconfig/i18n

Thank you Tony, now all is ok: with your help I finally fine tuned my
redhat9 that at present is perfect and I can start taking confidence with it
and (hopefully) leave M$ Xp home.
The only remaining questions are first to configure my adsl USB modem, and
then verify
if my old Hauppage Usb TV tuner can run also under linux.
But these are problems that I will attack in the next weeks.
My Usb hard disk is well running; the pcmcia smartmedia flash reader/writer
is running; the digital camera is connected; scanner and printer are ready;
all is well running....

Thanks a lot, Tony.

Thanks Bruno. It's *always* a pleasure to provide needed help for somebody,
especially those such as yourself who do both their own thinking and their
own homework.

Your English is far better than my Italian. =B^)
