Default Samba Authentication?

Have the Samba server authenticate against the PDC. If your Windows
clients are logging into an AD network, you will need to keep the
UID/PASSWD local, in which case turn off guest only. Both changes are
well do***ented and will effect the smbd.conf file.

Default Samba Authentication?

Okay this might be a realy basic question that I should already know the
answer to, but...

Under Redhat 9 there's an option to "Authenticate" against a Samba PDC.
(System Settings -> Authentication for any X-users out there.) If I
have this turned on, does this actually mean that it will attempt to
authenticate users at logon against a Samba PDC? Have tried it out, but
it doesn't seem to be accepting anything except locally defined users
anyway...

Reason I ask is that I'm running 3 PC's with one as a Samba PDC for the
other two Windows XP machines... One of the XP computers dual-boots
Redhat 9, and if I could manage to get access to the same home
directories under Linux I'd be a happy camper. I've attempted to mount
the home directories using autofs, but for some reason the owner and
group always revert to root/root and as a simple user I lose write
access to the home directory.

Default Samba Authentication?

Thanks for the reply... I guess I might not have been clear enough in
my first email though. I already have a Samba PDC (call it 'A') running
(and working as intended) for my XP machines ('B' and 'C').

One of the XP machines ('B') dual boots into RH9... Can I set up RH9 on
'B' to authenticate against the Samba PDC on 'A'? Ideally I'd like to
have access to my email, etc. from my XP roaming profiles under RH9 on
'B'. (I've already got this working if I log on to RH9 locally at 'A'.)

Again, thanks for any help.

Sure can. Set your authentication to server and put in your machine 'A'

You will also need to go into your "Authentication Configuration" on the
second tab enable the SMB portion and enter the appropriate information.
