Default slack 9.1 / acpi question

can someone tell me how come i do not have a /proc/acpi directory? i think
i've read somewhere that nower days it is to be located @ /proc/sys/acpi ...
i dont have that either. can someone explain how i can 'create' this
directory? i have a system that is running linux 2.4.25 [i've tried 2.4.21 -
2.4.25 ... 2.6.x is not an option on this machine]. i have been trying just
about everything i can think of to get acpi working once again [acpi
'somewhat' worked when slack 9.0 was installed from scratch], and am not
having much luck. everything i think i need is to be in the /proc directory
in a dir called acpi, yet i dont have one. i have ACPI compiled into the
kernel, and everything. i have a compaq presario 1700 laptop. can anyone
make suggestions? point me in a good direction?

btw, i have read http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/Battery-Powered
, and many other docs dealing with ACPI - which i have done everything it
says, and i wish i could use APM, but that is not an option with this
laptop.

any help on this issue would be much appreciated!

thanks -

When it came time to select your kernel, did you select bareacpi.i? Or,
did you just hit enter and accept the default(bare.i)?
If you selected bareacpi.i, you should have /proc/acpi. You won't get
/proc/acpi with bare.i.

I had a problem recently trying to have the /proc/sys/usb directory
created. I had proc filesystem support and usb support compiled into the
kernel and still could not see the directory. I fixed it my saying 'Y'
to usb support in the kernel config rather than 'M' (all other usb
support is compiled as modules).

Do you have proc file system support compiled in?
Is acpi support compiled as a module, or compiled in?

i just used bare.i ... =( is there a way for me to 'create' this dir?
to answer barry's questions;

yes

compiled in, for some reason 2.4.25 and 2.4.24 dont give me the option to
use a module for ACPI... i've tried to use APM as a module and as compiled
in, with and without ACPI in the kernel, no matter what i do, i do not get
the /proc/acpi or /proc/sys/acpi directories... i think maybe something else
is awry =)

thanks for the suggestions, got any more? =)

thanks!
