Default slackware on the laptop

I've always used slackware on my desktop now I want to move it to my
laptop. I've installed suse on my laptop the problem is its a
battery hog. my laptop might get 1 and half hours of run time off of
the battery. I get about 3 and a half with windows. So does linux
have modules to help with batery life and the sort. Also I couldn't
ge tthe wireless lan drivers to work with suse. Also I noticed that
suse had a battery meater in kde will slackware have a battery meater
also or will I have to configure somthing for that. Any help would
be appreciated.

Thanx for reading

I put slack on a POS Dell 5100 and everything works except the modem
(which probably works, but I haven't tried it.)

The wireless minipci card they wanted to bundle with it wasn't directly
supported--have to buy some driver stuffs for it, or else buy a 3rd
party minipci wlan card.

Battery lasts over 4 hours at a reasonable screen brightness, just as
advertised.

So it's possible. Check this out:

and look up your laptop make and model and see what other peoples'
experiences have been.

In essence this is the kernel's task, so will not be different between
Slackware and SuSE.
Application programs and tools may differ, though. I'm not a SuSE
expert (never even seen it, actually).

Someone else already mentioned ACPI, but you should also look at
CPUfreq.
