Default Conexant modem problems

I've just installed Suse 8.2 Pro. It found all the hardware fine during
setup, which I was truly impressed with. It even found the Conexant DSL
modem I have which I wasn't expecting it to do.

However, trying to configure the DSL connection using YAST2 is causing all
sorts of grief. I go through the config screen, entering all the usual
info. It's set to PPPoATM, I enter both domain servers as provided by my
ISP, username and password, and the VCI/VPI parameters.

I go back into KDE and KInternet is running happily with the plug next to
the clock. I right click on the plug icon and select Start, and the icon
changes and gains a green circle, which I presume means it's connected to
the DSL signal. The problem arises when I try to browse the web. I get an
error that says it can't reach the website, and KInternet "Stops".

Where am I going wrong?

TIA

Somehow Sparky Mark managed to scribble the following:

It could just be that your /etc/resolve.cong is incorrect - it's supposed to
contain the IP addresses of KC's dns servers. Try opening a shell and type

cat /etc/resolv.conf

If it doesn't contain the DNS's when you're online that'd be why,
