Default Alacarte ?

I am having a problem trying to add a selection to the applications/system
menu using Alacarte. I am trying to add gdebi. I find it listed in the
menu editor's system tools listings. I click the check box, but
after closing Alacarte and looking in Applications/System Tools menu the
program is not listed/shown.

I new to Ubuntu and I sure I'm having some ****pit problems here. Can some
pleas help me out?

Thanks,
Danny

Refresh gnome panel. Type this command on the command line:

$ killall gnome-panel

Didn't work.

Enter the command as you suggested. (Did notice that the screen
blinked).

Ran Alacarte repeated my previous steps. Same result the program was
not listed on the System Tools menu.

Running Alacarte again and the check box that I had previously checked
was unchecked.

Still stuck.

I have issues with Alacate too, although different. I usually uninstall it
and install Smeg instead, it works better for me.

I just dragged my test laptop out of the closet to check and there was no
smeg in the repos :-( But, a quick Google turned up this:

http://dev.realistanew.com/smeg/latest/smeg.deb

I uninstalled Alacarte and after downloading the deb file above double
clicked on it and it was installed.

Ahh, but did it solve your original problem?

I also meant to say that when you update your system Alacarte will prolly
want to replace Smeg (It does on a Fedora Core 5 system) If you want to
keep Smeg you have to watch out for it an de-select it. I'm sure there
must also be a way of excluding Alacarte from being installed during an
update but I can't remember right now.
