Default Canon 4200F scanner

I have a cannon 4200F scanner, but I cannot get it up and running.
When I check in the SANE project, I see it is not supported.

Can anyone help me to get it to work in KUBUNTU ?

I like Kubuntu, it would be a pitty to be forced to return to Windows
because lack of HW support.

I'm stuck with the same problem, the excellent Canon 8400F scanner.
But I see the OS just as part of the solution/problem and dual boot with
Windows.

Canon is a company that has an outspoken anti-Linux policy.
They have numerous times been asked to support the development of
drivers but are not willing to help.

As a result hardly any Canon scanners work in Linux, next time better
vote with your money and spend it on a brand with more clue.
Sorry...

There were some reactions indeed,
but the only advise I got was to buy a new scanner.
No real solution to my question,
so I decided to search a solution elsewhere, (in this group)
To see if there is no real solution to get my scanner working.
I hope it is not forbidden to get a second opinion when the first request in
another group did not provide a solution.

Best rgds,

Marc

Canon's lack of Linux support is legendary. I ditched an otherwise nice
BJC5100 printer for that reason. I've had very good experiences with Epson
products - particularly from the Epson online store where they have very
good prices for refurbished products supported under 'iscan' software -
downloadable from avasys.jp.

Kom nou zeg. Je hebt een vraag gesteld in ncolo, de roelerende ng
regarding linux. Als ze het daar niet weten, vergeet het dan maar.

Wat? Heb jij geen vertrouwen in ncol*? ti shamo!

OK it seems I can forget about using the Canon scanner in Linux.

Sorry if I stepped on some long tones by asking this in more than one
newsgroup, but I'm new to with Linux, and I wanted to make shure
that it really is not possible to use it before trashing either
the scanner or Linux.

For the moment, I'll leave the dual boot Window/Ubuntu as it is.
Use Windows to get the work done and use Ubuntu to toy around
and get a better grip on Linux.
It's a pitty though, because apart from the HW recognition,
I like it alot.

Altough my first impression of Ubuntu was very positive,
it seems that HW detection is still a weak point in Linux.
In order to get Linux better accepted on the desktop,
I think this is a key issue, it should get rid of its bad
reputation on HW detection.

The problem lies with Cannon, they have not and are not willing to support
Linux in any way. They are strictly winders oriented, have no desire to
supply open source drivers for their products. It is not a HW detection
problem when it comes to installing Cannon devices. There are work arounds
but it requires a bit of work and I have read on Linux news groups where
they were able to get Cannon printers/scanners working. If you want to take
the time...
