Default CUPS upgrade in U_6.06

Gents:

Having recently upgraded U_5.10 --> U_6.06 I've just been prompted for a
major EVOLUTION upgrade. No problemo it's done. But the prompt ALSO wanted
to upgrade < gnome-cups-manager > and a couple other functions for which
task I was supposed to first run:

<sudo apt-get dist-upgrade>

Little info was given about the consequences, except that "... a few
packages ..." would be removed. My printer is functioning just peachy.
Why the change?? Is this task really prudent and useful?

You can read the changelog for any package in
/usr/share/doc/{package}/changelog.gz or changelog.Debian.gz
It's also a good idea to subscribe to the ubuntu-security-announce
mailing list.
