Default external disk and permissions

martha505 illuminated alt.os.linux.ubuntu by typing:

Is it an NTFS fomatted disk? If so, you'll need to search synaptic or
adept for NTFS-3G and ntfs-config and install them.

You'll then need to configure it.

I think (although I use gnome here) you can open a konsole window and
type
$ sudo ntfs-config
Enter you password and a window will open.
You can then put a tick in the box for external drives and you should
then have "write access".
