Default Firestarter blocking RDP

I cannot find a solution for this.
1. Is it really important for me to run firestarter?
2. If so, how do I make sure that it will allow me to launch the RDP
screen when connecting via vpn?

Your port for RDP is being blocked. You will need to open up the port
using the firsarter interface. This is usually port no. 3389

No. It's not really required. Especially if you have an external
router and aren't "directly" connected to the internet.

I'm not familiar with firestarter, but you'll need to allow access to
port 3389 to the program in whichever way it does it.

It's open and still not working. I tried creating rules for the
destination incoming/outgoing, no luck.

They are looking for fucks like you (that do not know the answer and try
to make the poster look bad) in the XP NG. Try it once.

Does it work when firestarter isn't running?

You may want to checkwhich port RDP is trying to use. It may be that
it's trying to use another one.

Are you sure you have the right protocol selected? RDP vs VNC? For VNC
you want 5800 and/or 5900.

If it is VNC you want then http://www.realvnc.com/faq.html#firewall may
help.

If RDP the host may be listening on a different port
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306759 details how to change 'over
there'). Not sure how the Linux client works on alternate ports but the
win one just used the notation hostname:8888 where 8888 is the port number.
