Default Joining AVIs

Can anyone suggest a program that will join (compressed) AVI files? I'm
not looking for anything fancy, just something fast.

Well, if the files are in rar form, then downloading unrar should
solve all your problems, simply by double-clicking in nautilus on the
first file.
If the files are simply split, then there is a program called
gtk-splitter
which will rejoin them; or you can rejoin them using cli if you're
really intrepid.

HTH.

AVI is a "wrapper" the actual coding of the signal could be any of
several systems like DV or whatever. You could try something like Kino
which is a simple video editor, or go for the more complicated
Cinelerra which should handle most problems, but then there are plugins
that would have to match the coding as well.
I'm just starting in the field of video editting and I don't have all
the answers, but this is a start.

What he said! Obviously I misread your original post and assumed
incorrectly that you were merely wanting to rejoin files, al la usenet
binaries. Video editing is not my forte, although I have used kino to
manipulate a few avi files, with extremely mixed results.

I will defer to those with greater experience and leave the answers to
the experienced.

Good luck.

O, BTW, I've found Avidemux to be far easier than Kino, but that's
just my personal preference.

Thanks for that. I'm pretty busy lately, but I'll try to give it a
whirl in time.
