Default Laptop Advice - UPDATE

Well, after a week I can let you know that the installation of 'Edgy Eft'
on my Amilo A7640 went well, I am dual-booting with XP Home and Edgy
recognised just about everything without any problems. The built in card
reader just works when an SD card is inserted and I can transfer images
across without a problem.

The built in wireless was a bit more problematic, but with the help of
NDISWrapper and a thread from UbuntuForums I had that cracked within an
hour of Googling for some help.

As an aside, I installed Automatix2 and I have used that to install
NDISWrapper, Gnomebaker and VLC media player as well as various codecs.

On the XP partition I have installed Firefox and OpenOffice, just in case
I need to use it, unlikely but be prepared eh?

I can't wait for the official release of Fiesty Fawn if Edgy Eft is this
good, I know Mandriva 2007 quite well but Ubuntu has blown me away.

Tim.

I used to use mandrake, but I've been really impressed with the way the
Debian package management works. Far superior to every incarnation of RPM
that I've tried.

Until I got used to Mandriva I found that I had dependency hell. It was only
after 10.1 that I sorted myself out. I use Lazarus ( a Delphi like RAD )
and Eclipse and I found with Mandriva if you use easyurpmi then the
problems are lessened. I don't like to be dependent on one distro so I use
Mandriva, Ubuntu and Slackware.
