Does anybody know if Ubuntu runs on the Intel-based Apple Macs? Ideally -
would be keen on hearing on someone whose actually got it up and running
themselves or experienced it firsthand.

I am thinking about buying a MacBook, the deciding factor will be if I can
get Linux running on it (I know it runs on Unix but I will be doing some
development and need the more familiar tools of Linux).

I got it "running" but with no wifi, no bluetooth and only VESA Xorg
driver. It was bloody fast though! Even on the command line, some of
the "benchmarks" I ran against the same version of Linux (Kubuntu
Dapper) on my AMD64 3000+ machine simply hosed the AMD

Although, after tasting the "Everything Just Works" niceness of Mac OSX,
it is now back on this Macbook and I don't see that changing any time
soon. Meh - flame me.

If you REALLY want Linux on a laptop, I'd suggest you go for a more
"traditional" laptop, save some money and buy a
Toshiba/HP/IBM/Lenovo/etc. Avoid Dell....every Dell lappy I've owned
was a steaming pile of s#!t.
