Default USB Memory Stick-Kubuntu 7.04

I have Kubuntu 7.04 and wish to transfer files to and from Open
Office using an USB Memory Stick or external Hard Drive.
How do I do that?

I don't know if you can use OO to write to an external HD or USB memory
stick, but as long as you don't mind one extra step, you can store your
stuff on the desktop and then, it should be as simple as plugging your
memory stick or HDD into a USB port. Once you do, Kub *should*
recognize it and mount it for you and you'll have an icon on your
desktop. From there, it's a matter of drag'n'drop. The only issue you
may have is with permissions, but let's try to d'n'd first and we'll
deal with permission problems if we have to.

If those devices are mounted John, OO, nor any other app, should have
problems reading or writing to the drive. It simply has to open the mount
point and do so.

Cheers.

Sorry, late night! Should have been "shouldn't" rather than "should" that I
posted above. Geez.

Cheers.

I just checked and yes, it will work. I can open a file on my USB HDD
and load it into OO, modify and change it. As long as you know where
Ubuntu is mounting it: /media/USB-HDD is how it looks on mine. I
haven't checked a Memory Stick yet but suspect it will work the same
way. Ain't Ubby great?

Hi John,

I have Kubuntu 7.04 also. When I insert my Kingston USB memory stick, I get
a desktop icon and can open the memory stick for copying to/from the hard
drive. It works just fine here.
