Default world clock synchronisation

Hi,

When booting ubuntu, it attempts to synchronise the (bios) clock with
one on the WWW.
Since I have not plugged in the network adsl cable at that moment, it
causes me waiting abaut 1,5 minutes extra.
Solution under Windows would be stopping the synchronisation service.
Under Ubuntu something similar exists.
Is the service involved (located at): /etc/init.d/hwclock.sh
or:
/etc/init.d/hwclockfirst.sh

And how can I (safely) stop it?
At the prompt, I suppose.
By using the (first, during installation, admin) account, or do I use
the root account?

Greets,
