I bought Gladiator today to hear the wonderful 6.1 soundtrack that I'd read
so much about.

Imagine my surprise when the R2 disc I bought only has (dts and DD) 5.1!

What is going on? I've seen scans of covers on the web that clearly say dts
ES.

Is it possible the "tag" isn't set on this disc?

You may have to force your amp/receiver into ES mode
like I have to using my Yamaha Z1 to play Star Wars
Phantom Meneace.

Well, there is no 6.1 option on the disc under audio options, and amp does
it automatically - eg. Die Another Day - if 6.1 is available.

Gladiator IS DTS-ES 6.1 in Region 1.
The flag is not set.
Amps will NOT do it automatically if there is no flag set.
You have to do it manually. ================================ : :

look at the cover of the one that you actually bought (assuming you DID
actually buy it, as you mentioned SCANS, and not physical covers...).

There's a 1-disc edition of Gladiator that doesn't even have the DTS track
on it. Could be that you have that. But, wait... you said it has DTS
5.1... bah. whatever. I'd say it ****s that the 1-disc version even
exists, but I don't care about Gladiator. Shrek, on the other hand, has a
1-disc version, and it's... *drumroll...* Fullscreen. those bastards.

I can only repeat what I said above, and that is the R2 2-discer one I
bought from Play has only 5.1 on the disc and on the cover. Looking into
this further at various sites including Amazon, etc. the cover pics mention
6.1 in a R2 'Signature Edition'.

I had heard a lot about the 6.1 track and (wrongly) assumed that all the
sets had it.

I did no such thing, silly rabbit. I asked, as you quoted above, whether
you were looking at YOUR actual copy or just scans from the internet. Sorry
if you weren't clear. It wasn't my intention to insult you. But really,
online scans don't mean ANYTHING, when you have a physical copy in front of
you. No need to go making assumptions

PS: oh, I kind of missed your first sentence in your original post. Well,
sort of. My guess was that you (maybe unknowingly?) bought a pirated copy,
hence why you were looking for scans. Either way... meh. I think other
people answered your question anyway. I'm just bored.
