Default Audio in Menus (dvd)

I am wondering if the dvd specification allows for audio events to accompany
cursor movement in a menu; for example, as I move the hilight among buttons,
can I have them so they make sounds, like in flash?

Thanks!

fair enough.

any suggestions on how i might fudge this? My only thought is to have
automatic button actions, linking to a different cell, program, or pgc, any
of which would be officially motion menus, but for the audio, they just have
their tone, then silence afterward. My hesitation is rooted in the pause
time when switching around between cells. i have some silly ideas about it,
but i am hoping for outside input.

btw, i am editing video/audio with Vegas 4/ SoundForge 6 and still images
with Photoshop 7. I am authoring with Scenarist 2.6 (yeah... i had to sell
my kidneys to get it, and now can't afford to upgrade... ****.)

Thank you for your help.

any

I really don't think there is a nice way to do it. You could of course make
a lot of separate menu pages, each with their own little "bleep" or whatever
at the beginning, but in my opinion, the effect of a menu sound has to be
instant, otherwise it's not worth the hassle, and it would of course slow
the menus down if you used different scenes. Part of the Superman - The
Movie menus use separate menus/pages for each menu item, and I find that
very annoying and slow to deal with, and they don't even use a sound effect.

yeah... i went ahead and made separate menus for each tone. it's a pain in
the ass, but it works. it's not too slow, though, which is good- and it
makes the sounds, which is the important part. It's a disc for a series of
piano recitals for various kids. the menu allows the viewer to select the
child they want to watch, or to play all. it is presented as a list of
names superimposed above a keyboard, next to the accidentals. the
accidental is highlit next to the child's name, and when you go up or down
to another key, it plays the tone. if you select play all, it plays a
3-octave F#M chord.

it's rad.

anyway, erika, thank you for your imput. i will check out that superman
disc to see about what you're talking. I did a similar disc a year or so
ago, where we transferred Super* to disc, but instead of having thumbnails
for the chapter selections, I have a 20 second clip playing as the entire
background. similar as above, it changes as you navigate. yes, there is a
little bit of a lag, but you don't really notice, and it's worth it based on
the sentimental value for the viewer.

be well.
