Hi all,
Using Nero to burn a few files to DVD. Chose the verify option, and Nero tells me that all is fine. Being paranoid, I ran WinDiff, and it found one of the files on the DVD couldn't be read. (ie Nero's Verify process lied to me!) I then tried to open the file using Explorer - and sure enough it was dead. Does this happen a lot? (Not so much dead files, but Nero getting it wrong.) What does Nero actually do when it's verifying? It takes a comparatively short time to verify ~4GB of data. (Much less than WinDiff and other programs that do this sort of verification.) Regards, Phil I have had some emails converstions with Nero and essentially their response is that because the disk is still in a heated state during the verify process, it can give erroneous results. Here is the bullshit reply I got back. "The physical state of the burner changes during burning - both disc and drive are hot because of the disc speed within the drive. This temperature changes the the form of the burner as well as the focus of the laser. Nero verifies the disc right after burning when disc and drive still are warm. If, because of the temperture difference, the laser was not focussed correctly, it will be so while verifying, because the temperature within the drive is still very high. The errors therefore can only be detected after cooling down to usual tmperature." In my last email to NERO I asked WTF was the point of running a verify if the resuslts are unpredictable. I have not received a response. My advice is t get a program like CDCHECK and verify you cd/dvd burns. The program is free. --------------= Posted using GrabIt =---------------- ------= Binary Usenet downloading made easy =--------- -= Get GrabIt for free from http://www.shemes.com/ =- |
