Hello I was wondering I just got some dvd's from someone that they made for
me and they used Ritek dvd-r 1-4x G04's and I was wondering they play real
well on all my dvd players and I am going to buy some more dvd blanks soon
and I was wondering are they as good as hte major name brands such as TDK,
Pioneer, Maxell etc? Also I have noticed they have some sploteches on the
die that was used on them and I am a little worried about that and even
though they play ok can that pose a problem down the road and is the latest
batch of Riteks G04's like that? Thanks for any help

Latest Riteks are called ridata g04. Ritek renamed thier media,
changed to a new dye and have a new top surface which is more glossy
than matt surface. Manufacture code is ritekg04.

These new media have ridata and a logo on the inner part of the disc.
And they will record in panasonic dmr recorders as well as a sony and
a pioneer I have tried them in. My friends have different models and
brand of burners and players and so far they all burn and playback
just fine.

I had some troubles with ritek media that had the ritek brand name on
the onner part of the disc or just the numbers on the inner part and
the older media was dark purple for the dyes. Now they are a
red/purply colour and come in red packs of 50 are the ones I buy.
The red packs of 50 have ridata printed in white text over the
spindles.

This site here in Australia has what the new media packaging looks
like. So far its the only site to have these new media.

These are called smooth white inkjet printable and boy do they do a
good print in my printer. Comes out nice and shiny on top and looks
like a commercial product where media of the past was more matt type
surface.

From my personal experience, Ritek G03s and G04s are the VERY BEST.


That does sound problematic. Whenever I see splotches on a DVD-R: a.
it's usually another brand; b. it means that the organic dye is ripe
for decomposition (and a concomitant loss of data).

I've burned many a Ritek, and I have NEVER seen any discoloration in
the dye. Before Ritek, I used Optodisc, and those ****ers were very
hit and miss.

I farted around with many a nasty blank dvd til I was recommended to use
Ritek G04's and i havent looked back...

I have a MSI drive.....and to be honest i wish i'd paid an extra £15 and got
the lite-on.....

The MSI is a bitch with cheaper branded dvds........but....to be
fair......MSI have released a couple of "flashes" to upgrade the drive.....I
have done this and it now works with cheaper dvd blanks.....but i have found
out that if you cut corners on blank dvds.........you could be heading for
pixelated/skipping burned dvds.
