Default Foxtel Digital + S-Video Ouput + DVD Recorder = B&W Image

Hi everyone,
I'm going absolutely nuts.

I decided I wanted to get rid of the SCART > RCA link to my DVD Recorder
DVR-510H-S and link it with an SCART > S-Video cable.

I bought a converter
(http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/en/product/P6675) and a couple
of S-Video cables
(http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/en/product/C1234 ) and put the
whole thing together.

I updated the Foxtel Box to output to S-Video instead of PAL, and it all
came together..... except the picture in B&W. I have checked my connections,
checked the DVD recorder settings for the input, and it hates me.

Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution?

Regards,
Bob

I forgot to mention,

If I put the Foxtel connection directly to the TV, it works fine....

Also, my PS2, which I plug into the DVD Recorder via S-Video works fine.
It appears to be just a problem with the Digital Foxtel going through the
recorder.

You will still want PAL regardless of your type of cabling.
Its the TV signal standard here in Aus.

Hey Gilgamesh,
If I set it back to PAL, the picture quality is shocking, coming through the
S-Video input.

The picture quality through the S-Video setting is awesome... just in very
faint colours (practically B&W)... actually, the more I look at it, REDs
appear ok.... wierd.

Fox digital box office has macro copy protection which is why it comes
out in b/w when recording.

Solution is video stabalizer cords which can be buoght at **** Smiths
for $80 or there abouts.

Default Foxtel Digital + S-Video Ouput + DVD Recorder = B&W Image (pioneer plasma)

Is that a Pioneer DVD recorder? According to some posts on the dtv
forum, there is a problem with s-video from foxtel to some pioneer
plasma screens. Maybe your recorder has the same issue? Does your DVD
recorder take RGB? I have mine going to my panasoninc DVD recorder via
RGB and the picture is great.

First I think he means composite when referring to pal (common mistake) on
Foxtel (pace box) I do know that when one scart is set to s video both
output s video IE: you cant set each different as you could on some of the
older pre digital boxes. But there are other connections on the box at least
for composite/rf. The only thing I can think off for the recorder is to make
sure its set to receive recordings in s video(no idea if recorders do that)
and test both scarts direct to make sure there outputting s video. And if
you can pass s video through the recorder then My guess is a setting on the
recorder or a recording fault which would require advice from the
manufacture to see if its a fault or a feature you cant change.

I have Austar and a Pioneer 510 (same as bob your uncle)
I have s-video going into my Pioneer 510 (input 3) from my Austar decoder
and don't have any problems recording.
I would say its a problem with the Foxtel decoder.

That's the way it's labelled in the UEC Foxtel STB menu. You can pick
PAL(which should be labelled composite), S-Video, or RGB.

On the UEC box, only one output does RGB, S-video and composite. The other
SCART plug only has composite connections. Maybe he has it connected to the
wrong SCART plug?
