Default a/v sync trouble when converting DivX to MPEG2

Hi!

I have a question for the experts here:

I have an AVI file encoded as DivX5 RIFF data. I used transcode to convert
it to MPEG Layer 2, for outout on DVD.
Transcode does a fine job on the video, I get about the same output
quality as on input.
The trouble starts when merging the audio and video files (I used mplex
from the mjpeg-tools for it). The audio then runs completely out of sync.
I suppose the reason for this is that I used the --export-fps parameter to
lower the framerate from 29.970 (NTSC) to 25 (PAL). So the video
increasingly ahead of the audio, because it runs faster.

How can I resync the audio?

Thanks for any hints,
Alex

Compare the duration of the video and audio tracks and adjust audio, if
necessary. Also the question is how the conversion of bitrate was done.
Inverse telecine might work if AVI originated from NTSC Film. It would
remove interlaced frames and convert the bitrate to 23.97 fps. This you can
convert to PAL (25fps) easily by running it faster. There's a slight
difference in pitch, but you'll recognize it only if you have a perfect
pitch :-)
