Default backing up dvd what program to choose? (dvd divx)

well as long as source dvd is less than 4.7 dvdshrik is really cool & easy... but whan the movie is really big i'm quite decieved with it... sometimes the image quality is close to a divx... so what program would u use to dupe long movies? dvdshrink, dvd2one, clonedvd, instantcopy, others... wich one gives the best image quality compression in your opinion?

There's a loaded question! : ) I've seen people get hammered for asking that on some forums. Basically, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There are so many variables at play here that it is almost impossible to say one thing is better than another. A few of the variables are: the original quality of the source disk (some movies are just plain better than others), your TV, your DVD Player, your eye sight, just how darn picky you are...on and on...

For me, I've used DVD2One to create full disk copies of all the Band Of Brothers disks and I think they look just fine. I've also combined Pearl Harbor 60th Anniversary Edition (movie only) to one disk as well as LOTR Extended Version (movie only) to one disk and I think they look great. I've also used DVD Shrink, but have not used it to compress a DVD9 to a DVD5 as I would rather use DVD2One for that. I'd bet that I couldn't tell the difference between a movie made with Shrink and one made with DVD2One, but my choice is to use DVD2One.

I've not tired any of the other programs you mentioned...

Check out this forum,http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/35, or the forums at http://www.doom9.org, & http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/. DVshrink2.3 produces excellent backups, just slower than DVD2one. And bye the way, most DivX movies are of excellent quality, all depends on the compression parameters!

I'll try : ) My settings are such that I reply in the format of the
original poster. I understand that it can be a pain for those who do not
have an html capable newsreader and though I could change that setting, I
prefer not to so I'll just have to apologize in advance if I forget to
manually select plain text. : )

Oh and while I'm at it, I'll also apologize to those of you how hate top
posting. It tends to be my preference as well.

Scrub,
You seem to be using OE6, just adjust settings to always post in non-HTML
to newsgroups, on my local news server that's THE RULE, and you get TOS'd
for continual html. Doubt anyone's going to complain to your server while
your
earldom nomination is pending, vbg.
Sincerely, BoB

I haven't seen a divx that is excellent quality yet. To gain this quality with Divx would normally require minimal compression and you'd be better off with another codec in this case... Watch out for people who tell you MP3 audio files are CD Quality also... Load of crap - haven't heard one yet that I can't tell the difference (even 320kb, let alone the trashy <256kb on the net)... You can fool some of the masses some of the time....

Just my opinion...
