I've had a DEC2000t for a few months now, and when I resize the window by
say going from a normal window size to full-screen, or vice versa, then it sometimes hangs, which requires restarting the software. Also, with nothing else running on my PC, when recording a film or something it occasionally hangs then as well even though I'm not doing anything on the PC. I can't remember ever having any problems listening to or recording radio using it. I'm using the following: Windows XP Athlon 700 MHz CPU 256 MB RAM ATI Expert at Work 8 MB graphics card Does anybody know what it might be that causes the application to hang? In particular, which out of the CPU, RAM or graphics card is likely to cause the problem? My graphics card in particular could do with being upgraded, do you think this might solve it, or would I need to get a faster CPU, or more RAM? Oh dear.
Watching that Pompeii thing on BBC1 last night in full-screen mode there were slight disturbances in reception, and on a number of occasions it seemed to be teetering on the edge of hanging, but managed to carry on, so I'm wondering whether it might hang when there are reception problems? I recorded Gladiator on Sunday night while watching ITV on my TV and had the DEC2000 app on the monitor so that I could see if it hung and there was absolutely nothing else running on the PC and then all of a sudden it hung for no apparent reason (although I wasn't watching the screen when it hung), so maybe when reception goes dodgy it can't handle it? Thanks for the info anyway. -- Steve - http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/ - Digital Radio News & Info DAB sounds worse than Freeview, digital satellite, cable, broadband internet and FM |

On 21 Oct 2003, "DAB sounds worse than FM"
Are you using the latest software, 2.16 beta from www.hauppauge.de ? It seems more robust than previous versions. Run setup.exe twice, first to remove the previous version. Your channel list is preserved. If the installer hangs, look in task manager. There`s a process called decode, or decompress, which sometimes doesn`t exit properly. Remove it with right-click > End Process Tree and the install should then continue. |

Yes, but I only installed it yesterday so I can't say how much it has
affected it. The application has hung since I installed it. Have you upgraded your firmware for the newer German firmware v1.05? I've read that some people have upgraded their firmware to this, but it says on http://www.hauppauge.de/sw_dec.htm that it's for Germany only. Do you know how much effect having a graphics card with a large memory (say 128 MB) have on this problem? Mine only has 8 MB of video RAM, and the other poster that replied said he's got 32 MB so I'm wondering whether a card with 128 MB would make a difference? -- Steve - http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/ - Digital Radio News & Info DAB sounds worse than Freeview, digital satellite, cable, broadband internet and FM |

I don't use the RF aerial output to the TV any more, but I think I will sack
off changing the firmware in case I do want to use it in the future, or if I sell it on. Yeah, I've had similar advice regarding video RAM size on alt.radio.digital too. It's a bit of a joke really innit. Hauppauge specialise in TV products on PCs and they can't even get the sodding thing working properly. -- Steve - http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/ - Digital Radio News & Info DAB sounds worse than Freeview, digital satellite, cable, broadband internet and FM |
