Default Dish Network Movie times wrong on DVR / Guide cutting off ends of movies

My DVR keeps cutting off the end of movies and Dish says they can't do
anything about it. They say the Guides are wrong so a movie that say
it starts at 5:15 and ends at 7:30 could end at 7:45 and hence cut off
the end of my movie if I use the guide to program the movies.

This also makes it impossible to record something else right after a
movie is supposed to end because you have to extend the time and
manually edit the movie end time. WHAT A PAIN.

Dish Network says they have no control and that Direct TV will have the
same problem because they all get their schedules from the same
networks.

Anyone else found this problem? Does Direct TV have the same problem?

Thanks

I think you will find that DirecTV doesn't have the same problems that
DISH does with Guide times, but it isn't perfect either. You didn't say
what DVR you are using with DISH but on my 50x receivers, all program
start and end times are rounded off to the nearest multiple of 5
minutes. If a show is scheduled to end at 8:01PM or 9:02PM, DISH rounds
down to on the hour at :00 and you lose the last minute or two. If a
show is scheduled to end at 10:03, DISH calls that 10:05 and will record
an extra two minutes onto the end for the earlier show or miss the first
two minutes if 10:03 is the program start time. With a multituner DVR,
you can both start a minute early and record extra minuts afterward (but
note that a default minute early doesn't help the 10:03 start time
rounding up TWO minutes to 10:05).

Select All Channels from the drop down. I picked Pacific because that's
where I am. If I pick 5PM for Sunday (May 1st) and scroll to 241-246
channels, notice that Grey's Anatomy has a "white spot". That means it
doesn't fill the whole hour slot. Click on Grey's Anatomy and you will
see it starts at 7:02PM PDT and only be 58 minutes long. Your Guide
won't match DISH's own web info and will say it starts at 7:00 and that
Desperate Housewives ends at 7PM. You would need to record them both
back to back to get the last two minutes of DH (recorded at the start of
GA).

There are plenty of examples where what DISH told you IS true. A
channel may not provide the correct start and end times. There, DirecTV
won't get you the missing pieces. If it happens that the start and end
times for your movies don't fall on 5 minute boundaries, DISH will do
the wrong thing. DirecTV appears to use actual minutes and not round at
all. That will make things better, but you will still lose the end when
a channel really does go longer than their published end time.
