Default HDTV Feature loss

I am thinking about purchasing the Toshiba 51HX83. I have read that you
might loose some of the picture size features if you hook up a cable box or
hdtv box. Can anyone tell me what features will be lost and if it is a
problem? Will I also be able to use picture in picture with a cable box?

Also does anyone recommend a different 51 inch rear projection than the
Toshiba?

Unless you're referring to digital cable, there will be no feature loss with
cable provided you directly attach the cable to the TV and use the TV's
tuner.

Default HDTV Feature loss (receiver)

If you connect via component cable (which you most likely will do if you are
wanting best hdtv image), then yes, you will lose some features such as PIP,
in some cases you will not be able record (copy protection feature), and you
will lose aspect ratios (ie. such as expanding a 4:3 native image to 16:9).
If you hook up via SVideo - you will not lose the above features. However,
your High Def receiver may not have an SVideo out. Many folks hook both
SVideo and component to the their tv so that they can flip between their
video inputs to either watch HDTV (on component) or regular non HighDef but
with the above features avaiable (on svideo).

Cheers!

You would need to split the signal before the cable box and run one input to
the cable box and one to the second TV input. One picture would be
controlled by the box, the 2nd by the TV tuner. The only limitation is that
the 2nd picture would be ****og only.
