Default Making backup copies of movies (dvd)

I'm sure this question has been asked and answered before, but since I jsut
got my dvd burner I need help. So I apologize a head of time.

I'd like to make backup copies of my movies (I own these just don't want the
kids ruining the originals). How do I go about this and getting around the
copy right etc etc.

Thanks

Darn kids, if it weren't for them nobody would be making "backups" and DVD
burners would have never been created. For your "legal backups", download
DVDShrink, rip the DVD to your hard drive as an ISO file then burn using
DVDDycrypter. There you go, a copied... ummm, I mean "legal backup" of your
DVD.

Ignore "Mr Wonderful's" snide tone. The blowhard acts as if he's never
made a...umm....legal backup and is apparently insinuating that you
have ulterior, illegal motives.

If you plan to use standard blank DVD+-R, be aware that they only fit
4.7 Gb. Most commercial DVDs with extra features contain more data than
that. You can use DVDshrink to whittle down the size of the files you
rip, either by selectively dispensing with certain parts of the DVD
(such as extra features, foreign language overdubs, etc) or by
specifying the amount of compression you wish for each part of the movie
(so long as the total size of the files ripped does not exceed 4.7Gb).
If you have NERO installed, then DVDshrink allows you to burn it to a
DVD right away without bothering with the time consuming step of
creating an ISO image.

Alternatively, you can use DVDdecrypter to rip the entire DVD to your
hard drive, then use DVDshrink to compress it to 4.7Gb, and then burn
it to DVD.

These free programs automatically bypass copyright protections.

I was pointing out how ridiculous it is that everyone uses the same excuse
when asking for advice on how to copy rented or borrowed DVDs. Pretty much
every single person who frequents this newsgroup or comes here for advice is
doing the same thing, and its not protecting their DVDs from their own kids.
My advice was 100% correct though. Its not time consuming to make an iso of
any file under 4.7 Gigs either.

lol, I try not to judge but seems ppl can't help but try and explain/justify
when the truth is no one really cares if its true or not hehe. Ppl here will
almost always try to help even if the person posting said "I got a netflix
movies I want to copy, how do I do it?"

I don't see much wrong with it anyway, people who copy or download DVDs are
usually people who wouldn't be buying them in the first place. I have a
"friend" who copies from time to time, but every DVD he really likes, he
actually buys. Same goes with albums. Sometimes he copies the DVD, then
finds it to be one of his favorite movies so why not pay $15 and get the
real version with the real DVD cover and label. This especially holds true
to TV series on DVD, its just a lot better tro have the original box set
than crappy silver DVDs.

My "friend" is of the same elk, she can see the trailer, then pay to see
the show and then download it to her HD. But the collectors addition
comes out... She is off to the store to buy the set. 15$ please, try 50$
