I made the decision to walk on the wild side and get a digibox. Alas, I read
conflicting reports on the necessity to use an unsubsidised digibox ( ie not
connected to a BT landline). Do you think that if I go for the subsidised db
and use it in Paris, sky will find out and I'll be doomed, in other words my
subscription will be cancelled?

Since you can pick up an old box for less than 10 euros & use without phone
line. Why buy anything else.

A very old box that don't work, yes. Nearer €30 for a half-decent
working one.

Anyway, to answer the OP question - if you get the box installed
somewhere in UK and take it with you, chance of discovery is zilch.
However, there are lot's of better packages than Sky and you could still
watch BBC/ITV etc.

Get one off a dealer and not Sky.

1470 doesn't mean shite.
Just connect your box to a phone socket to enable the card. Will take a few
hours if not overnight for the box to make the connection to activate the
card.
Don't listen to dealer Muppets like him.

The box won't connect from France unless you add the international codes
etc.

The answer is to get the card activated before taking the box abroad,
then "forget" to connect the phone cable.

Thanks to all for contributing.
I guess the question is: if a digibox, used somewhere in the UK is
disonnected from the phone line, will sky do something?
Anybody in the UK volunteering for giving it a try?

subscriptions, where ALL boxes have to be permanently connected to the
same phone line.

There's no technical reason for the phone connection, only a contractual
one with BSkyB.

I already answered - contractually, yes, Sky can disconnect you. In
reality the chances of this happening are near to zero. I say this
despite what trolls/muppets like Erasmus said earlier.
Of course, bare in mind that you won't be able to order PPV over the
phone line.
