Aerosmith's Steven Tyler to undergo surgery
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler will undergo surgery
this week for an undisclosed medical condition, forcing the band to
cancel the remaining dates of its North American tour.

Tyler can undergo surgery this week.

The band's publicist, Marcee Rondan, said Tuesday that Tyler was
"doing fine" but declined to elaborate on his condition.

"Despite Aerosmith's desire to keep the tour going as long as
possible, Tyler's doctors advised him not to continue performing to
give his voice time to recover," Rondan said in a statement.

Tyler, who turns 58 on Sunday, can't perform for an extended period of
time, Rondan said, adding the band was on hiatus.

Aerosmith canceled recent concerts in Manchester, N.H., Pensacola,
Fla., and Lexington, Ky., because of illness, though the tour press
director did not disclose who was sick or the nature of the illness.

Well............ I got to see *my* local show this tour And it's
ironic since I moved from NH to SC last year. Hmmmmm

But seriously.... I hope everything is (and goes) fine for our current
direct object of the verbs. Being 58 years old (dear God 58??.. already...
I feel way too old all of a sudden) Steven needs to take care of himself
first. While I'd love to see more "work product", were he to retire and
find something to interest him (besides that band of his)..... God bless him
too...

Only to the ignorant is it funny. Of course they have insurance. They
aren't some garage band on their first tour. It isn't going to cost
them a penny. However, even without insurance the five of them could
well afford it and still not have to worry for the rest of their lives
or their childrens lives.

Substitute "ironic" for "funny" and stop looking for trouble just for
troubles sake.

I was thinking about "act of God" vs "self inflicted" when the bean counting
weenies at the insurace companies try to figure out how how to place the
blame for the lost tour revenue back on the band or Steven. You obviously
have no real experience watching an insurance company try to mitigate thier
losses on big claims. They are scoundrels, and look for any reason to blame
it back on the insured. First rule of insurance: They want to collect
premiums, not pay claims.

You're out of your mind. Insurance is only going to find a way to re-coup
their losses, especially after all the promoters and transportation and
securities companies lawyers come running and screaming. A BUNCH of people
are going to lose a LOT of money on a cancelled tour, and insurance isnt
going to sit back and politely pay bills. I dont find any of this funny
except YOU calling someone else ignorant. Let us know when you cancel your
first tour and how hunky dory it all ends up because of "insurance"

Now, now boys and girls. I'm sure we can have a mature discussion
without resorting to insults and name calling. Let's everybody just
take a few deep breaths, try to compose ourselves, and not take out our
anger on the other guy.

IMO, this will cause Aerosmith's insurance rates to rise, among other
things, as the underwriter tries to recover their money. They may try
to disallow that problem for future concerts, or require a rider on
Steve's vocal chords. This is VERY BAD NEWS for the band, because
medical problems like this have a nasty habit of lingering in people
over 55.

I'm not so sure that Steve and Joe could have afforded the losses
without insurance, because bands that never broke up typically don't go
back on tour until the members are low on ca$h.

But somebody *is* going to lose on this deal, and there are going to be
lawsuits that will force all parties to distribute the losses equally.
The fans will want their money back, the promoters either won't want to
pay it, or will want *their* money back, and so on up the food chain to
the insurance company.

Everybody will hire a lawyer, the only ones who will profit
unconditionally, and from the fan perspective, this has "class action"
written all over it. The wheels of the gods have just turned, my
friends, and they rolled over the toes of Aerosmith and all their baby
boomer fans.

This is a sad signal of the creeping decrepitude of an aging generation
of hard rockers, who never took good care of their health when they were
young. As we used to say in college, "Life sux and then you die." Get
well Steve. :-( :-( :-( .

Sometimes I think Helen and Codis have sat in here for too long alone with
nothing to do but practice flagellation as she really doesn't seem to want
to do anything but look for or miscunstrue the language to beat people with.
<sigh>

I was trying to make the point all along that perhaps the bands' silence on
the exact nature of the malady was based on trying to get the insurance
ducks *perfectly* in line. Also the language of the claim and public
disclosure all "lawyer approved" before the band went public with any
details. those insurance companies *look* for reasons to not pay claims.

Either way... the lawyers always win..

but we'll always have people screaming about ticket prices and blaming the
bands.
